Did Tesla Marry?
No. When he was 24, however, he fell in love with Anna (we only know her first name), whom he described as being “tall and beautiful with extraordinary understandable eyes.”
The couple spent the summer strolling through Graz and talked about a future in which he would be an electrical engineer and she would raise a family. The romance didn’t survive him going off to university in Prague. Later in life, he flirted with several women whom the Johnsons would invite to their salon for evenings of conversation. Yet the combination of his germ phobia and work fixation made romance unlikely.
During the height of his career, he suggested that inventors had such an intense nature that in giving himself to a woman he might love, he would give everything, and so take away from his chosen field. Near the end of his life, however, he did lament never having a partner.
